Digital is the future of television, providing better picture quality
and reception, plus the potential for a variety of new features that
improve the viewing experience. How do you show that new experience
without the new technology installed?
The answer is the use the most versatile medium to emulate the Digital
TV experience, DVD. The chosen functionality - multi-angle - to emulate
Digital TV’s multi-view. The content - the race that stops a nation
- The Melbourne Cup.
… what next?
Interactive Television
In the not-too-distant future, using only your imagination and television
remote control, you will be able to interact with program and service
providers through your digital TV set. For example, an interactive enhancement
may be used on a program such as TEN’s 'Video Hits'. Click and
you’d receive more information about the artist you were watching,
their album, their biography, or whatever was relevant to that program
or artist. Similarly, record companies could advertise a CD and offer
an enhancement that allowed viewers to see upcoming tour dates for the
artist.
Interactivity may also enable you to send information back to the broadcaster,
connecting you directly with the program. Using the example of upcoming
tour dates again, interactive television might allow you to reserve
tickets to the concert, vote for your favourite artist in an audience
poll or purchase the CD.
