MEDIA
RELEASE 15 March 2004
Once again DVDTECH has proved that it is the most technically precise
and advanced DVD production company in Australia. On Friday March the
12th at the third annual Region 4 Magazine Australian DVD Awards, DVDTECH
was honoured with the most prestigious technical award of the night,
the best authored DVD of the year.
According to both IF Magazine and Region 4 Magazine, DVDTECH ‘came
up trumps in all areas of the DVD format's accessibility with Reservoir
Dogs: Collector's Edition’. The Cinefile Best Authored DVD of
2003 Award was presented by the founders of Urban Cinefile Andrew Urban
and Louise Keller to DVDTECH’s Managing Director Jeff Sunderland
for ‘the highest quality of Australian production of a title’s
technical implementation, including reponsiveness, compatibility and
integration of digital assets.’ Other nominees for this category
were Watership Down, (Stream AV), The Wannabes, (Zealot Productions)
and Far From Heaven (from Digital Pictures Interactive).
There is an overwhelming amount of exclusive, behind the scenes and
value added material surrounding the cult classic Reservoir Dogs. To
cope with all the bonus material, this DVD set provides information
according to the Writer/ Director/ Actor focused on in each special
feature. Along with many other features on this Two Disc Set (including
an easter egg entitled ‘Reservoir Dolls’) the complex authoring
is shown off by the Film Noir Web. The Noir Files consist of 5 categories,
3 of which use cross referenced content pages to allow users to access
information depending on particular interests via book and films, writers
and directors or characters and actors.
Leon Coningham, the General Manager of Magna Pacific, as the title’s
distributer, said “Reservoir Dogs is a number one hit for Magna.
DVDTECH, not only rose to the technical challenges of the two disc
collectors edition set, but turned the project around for us in less
than a week! Truly outstanding service”.
The Awards Night was celebrated by Jeff Sunderland, Managing Director
and fellow DVDTECH employees, as the industry leaders clinked glasses
late into the night. Jeff Sunderland, Managing Director of DVDTECH
was quoted as saying; “This is a fantastic win for DVDTECH, as
we strive for excellence in DVD Authoring. I am particularly pleased
as it was a team effort and my heartfelt congratulations go out to
the whole team, especially our Senior Author. It was our Senior Author’s
expertise that perfected the intricate authoring of Reservoir Dogs:
Collectors Edition in a way only a true professional can; by making
a complex and challenging job look easy.”
After winning the Most Inventive Special Feature with Dinotopia last
year and entering the Hall of Fame with a third in a row win at the
US DVDA awards, this best 2003 Australian authored DVD adds another
industry accolade to a company with youthful energy who keep going
from strength to strength.
